You Asked For It - Prove God Exists

I have not blogged in a while but will use this blog to respond to the many questions we received at Church of the Lakes. This past Sunday I announced our new sermon series, "You Asked For It." It's an opportunity for our church to ask questions they would like answered or even have been asked by others and were not sure how to respond. My next few posts will be responses to the many questions we received.

Today I want to respond to one question that continues to be asked again and again, especially in academic or scientific circles. The question was worded, "How do you know there is a God? Prove it. Show me!" One quick response to this question is, "How do you know there is wind?" The only way for us to know that the wind exists is to see the effects of the wind. You can't see it but you can feel it and hear it. Just like God. You can't see Him but if you are willing you can feel and hear Him.

If you sit inside all the time, you could argue that the wind doesn't exist and you could challenge people to "prove it" to you. The problem with that logic is that you want someone to prove to you something that you are not willing to experience. If you won't go outside it is going to be impossible to "prove" that the wind exists. If you are willing to go outside then you can experience the wind and no scientific proof will be necessary. You will have experienced it for yourself.

God wants you to have a relationship with Him but it will require your willingness to "go outside." Outside of your current arguments and lack of scientific proof to a willingness to try and experience Him.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13

For those that are scientific minded this is also a great article...
